One of my favorite things about commercial photography is the peek I get into other worlds. In this case it’s the world of fasteners. Fasteners not only hold two things together, a complicated enough job by itself, but simplify, speed, and eliminate errors in production. Mostly I care about tonal values and textures, but as every photograph speaks, it’s important that it tells the right story. Let me know what you think!
Automotive Studio Photography
Not long ago I had the opportunity to photograph this customized Dodge Charger Hellcat. It’s a beautiful car, though I’d have preferred red to black. Black is nice, but red is just hotter! You can see it’s 700 plus horsepower engine on the studio blog. I am always interested in your thoughts.

Illustrating Motion with Photography
Illustrate as in explain, explicate, elucidate, clarify or demonstrate. There are many tricks or devices that help to illustrate motion in a still photograph. This time, the Creative Director thought that a triptych would be best at telling the story. I agree. I'd love to hear your comments or thoughts.
Custom Charger Hellcat
This customized Hellcat is a beast! Black cars are great looking, but they are a bear to photograph. You can’t make them black or they won’t have any shape. So they have to be gray, but look black, and shiny. It’s the challenges that keep this profession fun.
Commercial Studio Photography
I love shooting in the studio! We recently had a full day shoot for a California client that was a blast. Great clients, great product and a great model added up to a successful and productive day. There were some challenges encountered, like our wi-fi was not up to snuff. We have a fast enough internet connection, but the wi-fi was not. Problem solving kicked in and instead of piloting the unit though the computer, we attached and pulled a fishing line to illustrate motion manually. As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Building any product would be pretty tough without fasteners. And while these don’t look like any fasteners I’ve ever seen, they are. We spent an entire day photographing all kinds of fasteners. It was a productive shoot, and I’m looking forward to another soon Please let me know what you think.

Finding the best angle for a particular car is an impossibility. Best angle for what? Best to display what the designer was thinking? Or best at telling the story that it’s a zoomy exciting car, or a practical safe family car? You get the Idea. Where you stand and where you point has a huge impact on what a photograph says. It’s one of the best lessons I learned from Walter Farynk when I was in school. As always, I’m interested in hearing your thoughts and comments.
Jewelry Photographer
My best friend, Richard, created this gold necklace with diamonds. His hand is holding it. This is one of a series of images we’ve done with his hands. The jewelry pops off the black background, and his hand contrasts nicely with the jewelry. The photograph tells the story that this necklace was crafted by an artist. I like working with Richard, he has a finely tuned aesthetic and we collaborate well together.
Car Photography
Recently I had the opportunity to photograph a customized Impala. Silver is one of the easier car colors to light. All the breaks and shapes in the sheet metal almost define themselves. They added 6 inches to the back seat for a little more leg room. The grill was heavily modified too. More to come! As always I am interested in your thoughts.

Tabletop photography has been around since cameras were invented. The tools and techniques have changed over the years, but the vision has remained constant. It is possible to for anyone to put a product into a light tent and probably get an acceptable image. The value that a professional brings to the table (pun intended) is a better image every time that communicates the vision of the maker. A thousand words…

There are thousands of industrial filters that filter a wide assortment of gas and liquid. We were trying to make an interesting photograph to capture the attention of readers. I like stepping outside the bounds of a standard product shot. This hi-key photograph of filter media was one of the solutions that day.

There is nothing like a body kit to jazz up a car. I had the opportunity to shoot this Outlaw Mustang in the studio. It’s really beautiful! The wheels, suspension, engine and lots more are enhanced! Outlaw Mustang
I recently had the opportunity to photograph an Outlaw Mustang. Black cars are challenging to shoot, but that makes it more fun. Defining the complex shapes of a shiny car with light and reflection is only part of the goal. It’s also necessary to evoke an emotional response. This story is about how the chin spoiler, rocker sills, low profile rear spoiler and lots of other enhancements make it loads better! Let me know what you think!

There is a misguided belief that photography for web should be less expensive. This might be the case if photographers charged by the pixel. The value of an image is not determined by it’s resolution. The value of a photograph is determined by it’s ability to tell a story, communicate an idea, and grab your attention. Product Photography for Industry
People often associate industrial product photography with slap-dash, down and dirty photography; but it doesn’t have to be. In this project, we needed a few pictures for banners for the client’s home page. The purpose of these photographs is to draw in potential customers with visually compelling imagery. Shooting on location at the office of an investment advisor, my task was to take photographs that would reflect his business. As he collected antiques related to investment, my job was simplified. The antiques project a timeless stability, and the knowledge and experience to guide clients through the difficult world of investing.
